The KHS Chorale
The KHS Chorale is a select choral ensemble, which performs a wide variety of styles and genres of quality choral literature. The choirs’ personnel consists of seventy-five auditioned, dedicated, and talented musicians who collaborate and use critical thinking skills, while engaging in the creative musical process. Many of the choristers receive private vocal instruction from distinguished music teachers in our community. Chorale and Varsity Girls compete at the NSAA music contest and have consistently earned superior ratings by the judges. The choir has twice been selected to perform at the Nebraska Music Educators Convention (2012 and 2020).
The KHS POPS Choir and the Sapphire & Gold Singers
The KHS POPS CHOIR and the Sapphire & Gold Singers are two select show choirs at our school. Both of these groups have routinely brought home gold awards from the Nebraska Choral Directors Association Show Choir Competition. Judges often praise these groups for their outstanding choral tone and enthusiastic performances. The POPS CHOIR most recently won 2nd place at the UNO Show Choir Competition out performing several choirs from Nebraska and Iowa.
A Tradition of Travel
The choir has a rich tradition of international travel. Over the past several years the choir has traveled to Italy, Belgium, France, Spain, Ireland, Costa Rica, and England. While traveling on these amazing performance tours the choir has sung in venues such as Chartres Cathedral (France), the Pantheon (Italy), Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore (Italy), La Almudena Cathedral (Spain), L’église de la Madeleine (France), Ely Cathedral (England), KyleMore Abbey (Ireland), and Christchurch Cathedral (Ireland), among others.
World-Renowned Conductors & Composers
The choir has had the honor of singing under the direction of world-renowned choral conductors/composers: Ron-Dirk Entleutner, Z. Randall Stroope, David N. Childs, Vijah Singh, Eric Barnum, Laszlo Nemes, Jon Washburn, Brandon Boyd and René Clausen. The choir has collaborated in concert with Concordia University Nebraska Choir, University of Nebraska at Kearney Choraleers, the Platte River Singers, the Platte River Children's Choir and the Kearney Symphony Orchestra.
